PROGRAMME
10 April 2025 – 14,00-16,00 – Lecture
Introduction: required skills, teaching objectives, course content, teaching methods (lectures, computer laboratory, fieldwork), readings, assessment.
Theoretical and applicative notes on the geophysical methods active seismics (refraction and MASW), passive seismics (microseismic analysis, HVSR, standing waves-based methods) and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), inversion of ill-posed problems, indeterminancy, survey design of the geophysical campaign to be carried out during the field work.
Near-surface target detection and imaging: problems and solutions, experimental setting up, resolution, accuracy, errors, arterfacts.

15 April 2025 – 7.00-20.00 – Fieldwork
Geophysical campaign (8 students can travel in the minibus driven by the teacher, the others must organize the trip independently): 7.00 meeting point at the entrance to the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, preparation and loading of the geophysical equipment; 9.30-17.30 data collection; 20.00 return to the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT): data edtiting, data processing, data inversion, generation of models, interpretation of models.

29 April 2025 – 14,00-18,00 – Laboratory
Active seismics: data edtiting, data processing, data inversion, generation of models, interpretation of models.

6 May 2025 – 14,00-18,00  – Laboratory
Passive seismics: data edtiting, data processing, data inversion, modelling, joint inversion, synthetic spectra, generation of models, interpretation of models.

13 May 2025 – 14,00-16,00 – Lecture
Discussion of the results obtained, setting the essay to be presented during the exam, conclusion.
