A multidisciplinary excursion
The Impact of Climate Change on the Alpine geo-ecosystem
Organizers: Andrea Mondoni, Sara Savi, Daniele Pellitteri-Rosa, Roberto Seppi, Antonio Langone, Francesco Zucca and Matteo Maino
Where and When
The excursion will take place in the Stelvio National Park, Val di Solda (BZ), from July 28, 2025, to August 1, 2025
Objectives
The excursion aims to guide participants through a valley in the eastern Alps, where the effects of climate change on the entire Alpine geo-ecosystem are clearly visible. The environment is dominated by the presence of glaciers, which have left significant signs on the morphology of the valley. During the excursion, a variety of topics will be explored, including:
– the geological structure of the area, as part of the Alpine orogenetic evolution;
– the glacial dynamics associated with past and present climate changes;
– the effects of climate change on permafrost and periglacial landforms
– the impacts of climate change on the alpine flora;
– the evolutionary responses of animals to rapid climate change
Participants will also have the opportunity to observe and engage hands-on training on various surveying techniques, remote sensing with drones, rock and flora sampling, monitoring of wildlife species and more
